Two of a total five factories planned for Sofala province in Mozambique, are due to start operating by the end of this year, said the provincial director for Industry and Trade cited by radio station Rádio Moçambique.
Costing an estimated US$250 million, the new factories will be built, according to José Ferreira, in the districts of Chibabava, Inhaminga and in the cities of Beira and Dondo.
As well as the new cement plants, the provincial director said that work was underway to install a new oven at the Dondo plant owned by Companhia de Cimentos de Moçambique, which is part of the Cimentos de Portugal (Cimpor) group.
According to Ferreira, industrial production in Sofala province in 2012 saw an estimated year on year rise of 27 percent, which included production from metal mechanics, beverage and agricultural processing units.
