CHINA: Portugal's Cimpor opens another factory in China

Portugal-based cement group Cimentos de Portugal (Cimpor) opened its biggest cement factory Wednesday in China doubling its production capacity in the country, the group said in a stamen issued in Lisbon.

Cimpor Zaozhuang, which required investment of 100 million euros, has a cement production capacity of 2 million tons per year, the statement said.

The factory, the group's second in China after the one in Shandong, is located in Zaozhuang, an area rich in cola and limestone reserves, which is the raw material required for cement production, and is where many construction materials companies are located.

Cimpor entered the Chinese market in May, 2007, with the acquisition of 60 percent of Chinese company Shandong Liuyuan, and currently has two integrated cement production factories, in Shandong and Zaozhuang, a clinker factory in Liyang, and two clinker mills in Huaian and Suzhou.

The cement company in total has cement production capacity using its own clinker of 5.3 million tons per year.

The Cimpor group is present on four continents and in 12 countries, with an annual cement production capacity of 36 million tons.
