EUROPA: Cement producers fight over European funds for several million

Lafarge Ciment (Romania) became the second player on the local cement market, estimated at over 650 million who chose to access EU funds after Carpatcement Holding.

French group Lafarge has won three out of divisions through which it is present in Romania, namely cement, concrete and aggregates Comnord, European funds totaling over 400,000 euros for training employees.
The projects were made after more than a year and implementation began in June, July and August. Duration of each project will be 12 months.
The last program is the beginning of Lafarge Ciment (Romania), worth about 160,000 euros, which aims to raise awareness of the 650 employees of the premises Bucharest, Medgidia (Constanta county), Hoghiz (Brasov county), Targu Jiu (Gorj County) and Glina (Ilfov) on risks to health in the work process.
The largest amount, ie EUR 200,000, was obtained by Lafarge Aggregates Concrete for training employees in headquarters and 18 offices in terms of health prevention and safety at work.
Lafarge Ciment (Romania) has invested 500,000 euros last year, from its own funds for health and safety issues at work.
"For 2010 we planned investment of 2.5 million euros for what does work safety. Investments in this area have increased from year to year, "said Sorin Bogdan Industrial Directory Lafarge Cement (Romania).

Earlier this year, the company earned non-reimbursable European funds worth 6.3 million lei (1.5 million euros) to increase delivery capacity cement plant at Bicaz, one of three production facilities on local market.
Currently, the existing supply capacity of the factory is 6,000 tons Bicaz daily and project completion, the capacity to be doubled.
The amount is part of a project with a total of 16.5 million (4 million), which will be implemented during the period 11/03/2010 to 11/05/2011 at Carpatcement Holding branch Bicaz - Tasca factory where about 300 people work.

The money will be earmarked for energy efficiency projects, which will be generated approximately 15% of its electricity from the plant Alesd using heat generated during the manufacture of cement.
The company achieved a turnover of 246.6 million euros last year and net profit 21.6 million euros.
